Garnet carbuncle and diamond ring on 14ct gold band with letter written on black edged mourning paper. The large oval cabochon garnet approx 13x9mm surrounded by ten diamonds in silver setting on a 14ct gold band with engraved tapering shoulders. Ring size U. Approx weight 8.8 grams. In original box. Together with a letter dated 1878 from Count Batitigang to George Goldsack thanking him for his kindness and urging him to accept a keepsake.

More Information

Hallmarks are believed to have come from Hungary which was confirmed by John Benjamin at an Antiques Road show valuation. George Goldsack was a Captain in the 1890’s bringing European nobility across the English Channel and was always rewarded with a gift of jewellery. He is listed in the index of Captains Registers of Lloyd’s London in Dover Kent in 1898. Ring size T
