Alfred Wanderer served 1941 with Pz. Rgt. 21 of the 20.Pz. Div., then active in Russia (Minsk, Smolensk, Wjasma, Moscow, Gshatsk). 1942-44 he served with Pz.Abt.129, attached till Jan. '43 to the 29. Inf. Div. (mot.) , when the Div. was destroyed at Stalingrad. He survived this disaster, as he continued to serve with the same Tank unit after the Div. was reformed march '43 and renamed 29. Pz. Gen. Div., 1943-45 active in Italy (Apulia, Sicily, Salerno, Monte Casino, Rome and Nettuno.
